Tax Code Management

Configure tax rates for every market you operate in — VAT, GST, Sales Tax, and more.

Overview

Storvexa's Tax Code Management module lets you define named tax codes — such as "Standard VAT 20%", "Reduced VAT 5%", or "GST 18%" — and attach them to products. Once assigned, the correct rate applies automatically on every document.

Tax codes are business-scoped: you define the rates that apply to your operations. This makes Storvexa suitable for any tax jurisdiction — UK VAT, EU VAT, Indian GST, US Sales Tax, and more.

Zero-rated & exempt products: You can create a tax code with a 0% rate for products that are legally zero-rated or exempt. The code still appears on the document, confirming the tax treatment was deliberate.

How It Works

Setting up tax codes takes just a few minutes.

  1. Create a tax code

Navigate to Settings → Tax Codes → New Tax Code. Give the code a descriptive name (e.g., "Standard VAT 20%") and enter the percentage rate.

  2. Create as many codes as needed

There is no limit on the number of tax codes. Create separate codes for each rate: standard, reduced, zero, and any special-category rates.

  3. Assign tax codes to products

Open a product record and select the appropriate tax code from the dropdown. Every document line item using that product applies the rate automatically.

  4. Verify tax calculation on documents

Add a taxable product to any document. The tax amount is calculated per line item and the totals section breaks it down by rate.

If you are unsure which tax code to assign, consult your accountant. Storvexa stores whatever rate you configure — getting the rate correct is a business and legal responsibility.

Key Features

Named Tax Codes

Create descriptive tax codes such as "Standard VAT 20%" or "GST 18%". Clear naming eliminates confusion when assigning codes to products.

Multiple Simultaneous Rates

A single document can contain products at different tax rates — each calculated correctly and displayed as a separate line in totals.

Product-Level Assignment

Assign a tax code directly to each product. The rate is inherited automatically on every document line item.

Automatic Calculation

Tax amounts are computed in real time as quantities and prices are entered. Line-level and document-level totals update instantly.

Tax-Exclusive & Inclusive Pricing

Choose whether unit prices are exclusive of tax (added on top) or inclusive (already contained). Configurable per document.

Tax Display on PDF Documents

Generated PDFs display tax per line item and in a totals breakdown. Visibility toggled per document type in Document Settings.

Tax Types Explained

Storvexa does not enforce a specific tax regime — you configure the names and rates that apply to your business.

VAT (Value Added Tax)

Used across the EU, UK, and many other countries. Typical UK rates are 20% (standard), 5% (reduced), and 0% (zero-rated). Create a separate code for each rate.

GST (Goods & Services Tax)

Used in India, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and others. In India, GST has multiple slabs: 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%. Create one code per slab.

Sales Tax (US & others)

In the US, sales tax rates vary by state. Many businesses create a tax code per state they are registered to collect in.

Zero-Rated & Exempt

Create separate codes for zero-rated ("Zero Rate 0%") and exempt ("Exempt 0%") products to make the distinction visible on invoices.
